Mixing patterns is a subtle art, although the finished product may or may not be anything but. I'm really into this look and what makes it even more fun are all the new patterns that are available. They feel so fresh and classic at the same time. My goal is to someday have a guest room this inviting. Caution! Only for guests you want to have stay longer.
And this one is also a fav of mine. I love the smaller print on the wall paper with the larger chair and bedding print. Pretty darn cozy, huh?
Wow-factor.
The window treatment, pillows, rug and art work don't compete.
The books even add a punch of color and also...yep, pattern.
Even the different pattern on the hanging towel looks great. Notice how just two colors were used, that's a great way to get started if you're feelin' it and want to give it a go for the first time.
The chair, ottoman, rug and even the art combine to make this vignette really interesting.
A softer approach: A couple of different stripes with floral bedding at the shore house.

The easiest way to get this look is to mix pillows. Throw them on a sofa or bed with a solid fabric and voila! Here are some favorites from Cisco.
